Do you have a license to save this planet?
Before Russel T. Davies brought back Doctor Who and the main stream media fell in love with David Tennant we Who fans were in a desert. It was a terrible desert without any Doctor Who. Well, not really without, we had the books and audio adventures which later showed up on the scene. But many fan films and low budget spin offs made it out there.
Here is a wonderful one with Sylvester McCoy who played the 7th Doctor. Only here he plays the "Foot Doctor"! Traveling through space and time in a washing machine?

The Dalek Chronicles: Genesis of Evil
We love our Daleks, and their creator Davros, but in the 60's Davros was unheard of and the regular comic series had a different Origin. So today we present The Dalek Chronicles: Genesis of Evil the Dalek Origin. Please click to enlarge.
Dr Who: Daleks vs Mechons - the Third Peter Cushing film
Here is a wonderful little fan made trailer of the Doctor Who that never was. No! The Daleks killed the Beatles!
For those of you who are fans of the Peter Cushing movies especially you will love this:
The first two films were based on the prior two T.V. Serials "The Daleks" and "The Daleks Invasion Earth" this seems to be a little What if they made "The Chase" which did have the horror movie theme in it in the serial. This one looks wonderful. I wish that this film was actually a reality.

Doctor Who DVD frustration
I have been attempting to collect every William Hartnell episode of Doctor Who on DVD. I am running into a frustration that I have ran into my whole life with Doctor Who. I just can't get them. I finally ordered the last of the ones I need that are available in the U.S. from Amazon. I now am finding a road block.
"the Chase" and "The Space Museum" have been announced as 2010 releases for the U.K. but I can find nothing at all about U.S. releases. Then the BBC went ahead and put some episodes online to watch for free. This is good especially when I am waiting for the DVD release and it is one not yet released. I was watching them on blinkbox when they suddenly restricted them to the U.S., now you can not watch then in the country. I was furious. Blinkbox has "The Sensorites" online but it is still unavailable on DVD. Soon after they were restricted in the U.S. Youtube started to show some for free. This soon ended just like they did with Blinkbox.
It's bad enough that there are so many missing episodes, they really don't have to deprive us of episodes that are not missing. The copyright stuff is really ridiculous in all this. I won't get into my anarchist politics here on this blog, but I will say that I would rather get rid of the different region DVD's and be able to purchase a DVD when it comes out in the U.K. instead of waiting for the U.S. to get the release. Are they trying to promote a black market?
I am willing to buy my Doctor Who on DVD. No, I want to buy the DVD's completely legally, they have just not given me the opportunity.
BBC, stop hording Doctor Who episodes.

The Writings of Randy Taylor
This was done for a writing exercise I started on my ICCW site, but I managed to break my own rules. So check it out here and tell me what you think.
A harsh wind blows the debris of decades past across the barren landscape. Many years ago this was the hub of world finance, now it is the dwelling place of mans remnants. Tribes of scavengers scrape by with what little they can find to survive. A scrap of clothe to protect them from the elements. An unlabeled can of food which may or may not be fit for human consumption. The carcass of some mutated beast hopefully not long dead so the meat can be salvaged.
Once called a concrete jungle, it’s now more jungle than concrete. Towering structures of glass and steel crumble under their own weight as roots and foliage creep through the crack putting pressure on what is already unstable. These collapsed hulks provide shelter to the indignant population of the once grand city, the children’s children of the survivors of the end of time.
They have no memory of what once was. Only faded pictures and stories passed down of a time when the necessities of life were readily available. Dwelling heated by a source of power which also provided abundant light in the darkness. All just stories most take as myths and wistfulness used to lull children to sleep.
Reality is much darker. Roving bands hate filled half human marauders taking what they want and destroying the rest. Pillaging camps; raping and murdering women; taking children as rewards to be used in whatever twisted way they can conceive, leaving nothing but death in their wake. So the people hide and cower in their makeshift homes, desperately hording what they have.
For all the myths and legends, prophecies and stories, a hint of truth is always the one common factor, a vision of a long forgotten God or a sign of better things to come. Such as a child, born with a mark upon her forehead, in the shape of an old religions symbol that has held no significance for a long time. A woman child able to speak of things she has no business knowing, seeing things yet to come and holding influence above natural human level against others. Not yet physically a woman, she reigns over her tribe as a leader and a teacher, keeping them safe and leading them by establishing a hierarchy of power, organizing them and giving the knowledge to protect themselves.

BBC Winter Spring Lineup
Wow the BBC looks like it has a wonderful year ahead of itself this year. I love this preview. Watch until the end and you will see Doctor Who. we have Christopher Eccleston as John Lennon in Lennon Naked, Billie Piper in A Passionate Woman. There is another season of Ashes to Ashes, James Nesbit in a new show called The Deep, and I am really interested in the Secret Diary of Miss Anne Lister (Any relation to Dave Lister?) There is much more. I don't know if I will get a chance to even see all the stuff on there I want to see.

The Jack Chick Movie!
You heard it right guys. There is a Jack Chick Movie coming out.
They even claim the Pope is burning in hell in the trailer. WOW!!!
I have to see it. This should have some really crazy stuff in it.
For those of you who have never seen the Chick Tracks you must really check them out. They are full of people getting their faces melted off for playing Dungeons & Dragons, and all sorts of crazy stuff. It looks like this may be the next Jesus Camp movie.
You can read them online Check out the site here.
And now for something completely out there:

Peter Cushing is Doctor Who!
In the 60's two films were made based on the television serial. The movies took the stories "The Daleks" and "The Daleks invasion of Earth" and turn them into films. The plots are the same and the stories are extremely close. The major difference we see are in the Characters. Peter Cushing plays "Dr. Who" as opposed to "The Doctor"
The production on the films is just wonderful. The continuity to the show is non existence. I strongly suggest you check out both films. Thankfully both are available through Lions Gate to watch for free on youtube.

Spiderman Reboot!
So, we got the word just today about the rebooting of the Spiderman movie franchise, personally I love what Raimi did with his run but I do agree that part 3 was the weakest of the bunch, but hey like a lot of you I am left up in the air. Like what of all these talks that Raimi and McGuire was coming back and Malkovitch was going to be the Vulture (which I was excited for...) I really wish they would have used Bruce Campbell for Mysterio, but alas that has all gone to the wayside. Well here's looking forward to the future of old webhead which I have been following since he was on the small screen (ex. clip below), and I really hope that someone who really cares about him will take and create something that could blow all our expectations away!

The A-Team
Yes, in the 80's I loved the show. I like the trailer and can't wait to see the movie. It looks like pure action which is something I am not as into, but if you have that nostalgia you can get with something like this I'll love it. I hope the A-Team movie is good.

The Doctor's Mother?
Russel T. Davies has brought a more humanistic approach to the Doctor over the five years he was on the show. He showed us a man that can love, hurt, cry, and even make some bad decisions. This has been wonderful for the character. Doctor Who has made some great leaps forward with some of this. Now how human do you go? What can be more human than seeing one's family?
I checked out Planet Galifrey today who seems to be saying that Claire Bloom is the Doctor's Mother. I don't know how I feel about this. We saw her in The End of Time as some unknown TimeLady. There was nothing explained about her. Is this cannon? We see so much in the novels that seems to make little sense in relation to this. I spent much of my childhood trying to discover then answer to the question that was made the title of the show "Doctor Who?" I never really got it. When I discovered the tales of "The Other" and "The Loom" I felt somehow cheated. Do we need to know who the Doctor was really? It seems the more I know the less satisfied I am.
For those of you who are not familiar with the story presented outside of the show there seems to be an odd theory floating around about the origin of the Doctor. It goes something like this:
Rasalon, Omega and The Other were three great founding Timelords, kind of like the Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklyn and George Washington of Gallifrey. Then Timelords stopped having babies and giving birth to create themselves from what they called "the Loom" It is said that "The Other" threw himself into the Loom and came out born again as the Doctor. I have mixed feelings about that origin. And if this origin is fact then how does the Doctor's Mother fit into that? Are we going to throw out that concept completely?
One thing I liked about McCoy as the 7th Doctor was that he seemed to bring back more questions and mystery to the role. I like the mystery of the Doctor. How humanistic can we get and still retain that element of mystery? If we can relate to the Doctor's past will he become more intriguing or less?
Let us assume for a moment that that was the Doctor's mother who was tuning in on Wilf. I am still unclear as to what her role was in the whole thing. Was she trying to save the Doctor or bring the Doctor to that moment? Would something terrible have happened to the 10th Doctor if he remained the 10th Doctor? Did she in fact save him from a more terrible fate? Did she know that the Doctor would save Time and existence itself if he were present? I have a feeling he would have pursued the Master with or without Wilf. So why was Wilf needed? I am really perplexed about some of this.

THE END IS JUST THE BEGINNING

"I don't want to go.." Whimpered across my T.V. screen this weekend, and in a matter of moments another monumental scene in Doctor Who history was born. And then it occurred to me finally I must not be the only one feeling the same way about this. You see I can remember caring when no one else cared, before the days of RTD, before he wrote for the Doctor Who New Adventures line, I cared when i was just four or five years old watching the great Timelord dashing across my screen saving the world again and then changing from Tom baker into my personal favorite Peter Davison. The whole experiance is just odd for me now, like everyone I know watches or have caught it on T.V. the new series of Doctor Who, and I get flashbacks of being 16 and being at a Doctor Who costume party with like five other people from our local fan club. And I think to myself man how things change. So people are up in the air about this new fellow, well I like him (hes a Smith the Tardis needs a Smith) any way I love him just like I loved them all for the last 25 years, I even loved Paul Mcgann when and if others dont then oh well they must be Tennant fans not Doctor Who fans because if you look at what is happening right now it comes closer to classic Doctor Who than we have seen in a while. So here I am that same little boy at 5 years old looking onward and upward to series 5 filled with excitement just like I did when I saw my first regeneration, and still caring.

Robert Tovey Who's Who (Doctor Who)
He'll always be a friend of mine. Who? Doctor Who!
Roberta Tovey was the eleven year old girl who played Susan in the 1965 Peter Cushing film: Doctor Who and the Daleks, she also recorded this little song. I am a complete 60's Doctor Who addict the show and the films. I love it so I thought we all needed a little Roberta Tovey. Of course the video here from youtube is full of current David Tennant clips, but it is a wonderful one.

If you know me, you know the 7th Doctor, Sylvester Mccoy has a special place in my heart. I freaking love him. With that said, I can not wait to place this in my pantheon of Doctor Who figures.
I got this image from scottyboy's album. By the say he has some great pictures up of the new season in filming so go check it out here.

Doctor Who in America & New Doctors
Apparently BBC America is getting record ratings for the new Doctor Who episodes. This is at least what the Doctor Who news page is saying Here. This comes at a time where many question if Matt Smith will be able to follow David Tennant. This whole idea that the "Next Doctor" will not be able to pull it off is a bit dated isn't it? We recently did it to Tennant when he picked up. We have been doing it for over 40 years. Are people just now noticing Doctor Who and bringing up worries of the 1960's & 70's? I think the biggest worry I recall was the Tom Baker to Davidson. I would argue that Tennant is not the Tom Baker of today.
When Tom Baker episodes made it to the U.S. he brought with him a stereotype that would almost condemn the show here in the U.S. It was all anyone talked about when you mentioned Doctor Who. "Isn't he the guy with the Curly hair and the Scarf?" Well yes, one doctor was. And the show never survived it in the U.S. as popular as it seemed to be in the U.K.
Many have predicted similar reactions to David Tennant. I keep looking at the ratings increasing on BBC America and I keep thinking that the show will only continue this. Will Doctor Who gain more popularity in the U.S.? I believe if the BBC decides to keep making Americans wait to see the show it will fall back in ratings. If the BBC decides to let us have it the day after as they did this Christmas and New Years or if it decides to let us have it the same day I do believe this increase of ratings trend will continue.
I also have faith in Moffat and what he will do with the show. If the show is well written with the wonderful production value it currently has I believe this will only help it go beyond what Russell T. Davies accomplished. I do believe that there is a good chance our up and coming Doctor Matt Smith just may be the heavy hitter to contend with in the minds of Americans that Tom Baker once was. I also think we may be able to break that curse with the current show.
I'm hoping for another 47 years of Doctor Who in my life time.
